Save stations, Retry behavior, and route discipline.

How to Save in I Wanna Test The Game

Save stations are the only honest checkpoints in I Wanna Test The Game. Everything else—lava rooms, disappearing stairs, Sagat—will erase minutes of work if you forget to crouch on the pad. This guide explains exactly when and how to save in the Roblox beta.

How saving works

  1. Reach a save station (marked pads between challenge rooms).
  2. Stand fully on the station.
  3. Crouch (or press Z on PC) once.
  4. Confirm you are ready, then leave toward the next trap.

Retry (R or the Retry button) returns you to the last station where that save succeeded. It does not create mid-room checkpoints. Details for keys live on PC, Mobile, and Console.

When you must save

  • After any room that took more than two serious attempts
  • Before shop exits, so a death after shopping is not catastrophic
  • Before Stage 5 maze and before Sagat
  • After learning a new trap from the All Traps guide

Skipping stations to “save time” is the top cause of rage quits.

Save versus Parry

Both can use crouch, but contexts differ. On a station, crouch writes a checkpoint. In combat, crouch at hit timing parries—see How to Parry. Crouching between stations in empty air does not create safety.

Route discipline across stages

Follow Stages 1–3 and Stages 4–5 with a simple rule: clear → save → shop if present → continue. The stage checklist tool helps you track which stations you already used.

Shops and saves

Shops appear between stages. Buy gun levels (Gun upgrades), leave the shop, and ensure your last save is recent before Stage 6. Gun level itself persists even if you Retry—platforms and position do not.

Failure stories (and fixes)

  • “Retry sent me too far back” — you never saved at the nearer station.
  • “I crouched but it did not save” — you were not centered on the pad or still moving off it.
  • “I saved during Sagat somehow” — you probably did not; boss deaths reload the pre-boss station.

Linking saves to learning

Each save should mark a skill gate: first double-jump room, first disappearing stairs clear, first maze segment, pre-boss. Pair with How to Play and the Full Walkthrough so your checkpoints match guide chapters.

Saving is boring. Dying from a skipped station is worse. Crouch on every pad.

Save station etiquette

Approach the pad, stop moving, crouch/Z once, look for the save feedback, then leave. Sprinting across a pad without crouching is a silent failure. After risky rooms—especially Maze of Doom—treat the next station as mandatory even if you “feel fine.”

Retry literacy

Retry reloads the last successful save, not the last room entrance. If you forgot to save, Retry will punish you honestly. Combine this page with PC or Mobile so the crouch button is unambiguous.

Multiplayer distraction

Other players dying nearby can bait you into rushing. Mute chaos if needed, save, then continue. Progress tracking pairs well with the stage checklist.

Save timing heuristics

  • Save immediately after any room that taught you a new trap name
  • Save after every shop purchase so gun XP and position stay aligned
  • Save before Maze of Doom loops and before Sagat entry
  • Save when you are calm; never “one more try” past a pad when your hands shake

What Retry is not

Retry is not an undo button for a missed jump inside an unsaved room. It is a teleport to the last successful station crouch. Players who treat Retry like a rhythm game checkpoint in other Roblox obbies will lose minutes here. Read How to Play for the wider loop, and PC controls or Mobile controls so the crouch binding is unambiguous on your device.

Teaching a friend

Spectate them only after they save. Call out “pad” the way raid leaders call out mechanics. Point them to All Traps between attempts instead of shouting “just jump.” Track shared progress on the stage checklist.
